There is Another Way
An Unforgettable Film About Combatants for Peace (In Israel and Palestine)
This film is streaming twice 6/12/24 here (get tickets). This is the stub for a review of this important film, which I first saw May 15, 2025, Nakba Day, at the treasured film venue Cinematheque in Cleveland, Ohio.
The film—see its website—its Director, Stephen Abkon, and one of the Producers, Marcina Hale, are touring the country and plan a campus tour this fall. This June 12, there will be a global livestream and you can sign up here, and also see a trailer.
For an Apple podcast with Stephen and two of those in the film, see here.
Also, I strongly encourage reading this gift copy of a Haaretz article about Combtants for Peace’s co-director, Rana Salman. To learn more about Combatants for Peace, see their website. I have made several donations since 10/07/23 and attended several Zooms, as well as having watched the 2024 and 2025 YouTubes of their annual alternative Memorial Day and Nakba Day events (see their channel). More than once nominated for the Nobel Peace prize, this group and this film show there is another way. There must be another way. Think not ideology or position, but of the kind of radical humanism that is the way forward out of the nihilistic abyss we are in, where evil flourishes.
The Oscar awarded to No Other Land—which is now available for streaming—was recently shown by Cleveland Peace action and there groups here in Cleveland, and was shown earlier, and was discussed in the Cleveland Jewish News. The film has already opened the eyes and hearts of many in the local Jewish community, as has and will, I think, There is Another Way. These films—and accompany advocacy as people feel moved or compelled to do—will continue the process of helping educate and activate people of all faiths and ethnicities to work for peace with security and justice for all in the Middle East.
