Oh, no, somehow, by adding and LGBTQIA to the headline, I deleted my dozens of posts in this “beat.” I had wanted to add this comment on the near anniversary of the Supreme Court same sex marriage anniversary:
If I may, as a "graduate" of one of the early 70s gay/straight male consciousness raising groups of that era and an early 2000s public advocate for marriage equality: What many do not understand is that same sex marriage saved the institution of marriage! Prior to its legalization, a growing number of people were boycotting civil marriage in the US and globally out of opposition to the exclusion of same sex and gender marriages. It would be a great sociological study to determine retrospectively the extent of that boycott. Also, its legalization was a victory for religious freedom, since more and more major denominations then and even more now sanctify such marriages and are authorized by state law to do so following granting of a marriage license. These two observations are, I think, good arguments to make as we continue to speak out.
Well, here is some good news, at least, not that there is not much more the Catholic Churc could do.
